Austin Smith ("Ozzie")

SA Mens Hockey Captain

Austin Smith (captain of the SA men’s hockey team) is one of the best hockey players South Africa has ever produced. He made is debut back in 2004 and was named captain of the South African Men’s Hockey Team post his stand-out performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He is a two time winner of the South African Player of the Year Award and was named alongside other world class players in the FIH World All Stars Team. Austin is an attacking midfielder and at 27 years of age has 94 international caps scoring 20 goals for South Africa (as at 21 May 2012). He proudly wears the #5 on his playing shirt for country, club and province.
After the success of Teun de Nooijers T14 line and expansion of the Princess brand into South Africa, it was only natural to partner with South Africa’s best hockey player, Austin to create his own Princess A5 line. A5 meaning “A” for Austin and the number “5” on his playing shirt. Together Princess and Austin have worked to create his signature stick the “Princess A5” which has subsequently been launched and is available for sale in South Africa.
Besides just hockey Austin has recently qualified with a Bachelor of Education from the University of South Africa which he completed in the Netherlands. He plans to continue his studies while playing hockey in the Netherlands.
